General EducationGeneral Educaiton is the common name for the group of core courses that all students pursuing a bachelor’s degree are required to complete. Completion of this core requires approximately two years for students enrolled in at least 15 credit hours per semester. The Associate of Arts degree in General Education offers the greatest amount of flexibility for students planning to transfer to a four-year university. GAP Testthe General Achievement Profile Test is required for individuals wishing to enter the Registered Nursing program. There is a $30 non-refundable, non-transferable test fee associated with this exam. This fee may be paid the day of the test. GPAGPA is a student’s grade point average. This is calculated each semester and as a cumulative total. The grade received at the completion of each course is awarded points according to the level achieved. For example, an “A” is worth four points, a “B” is worth three points, a “C” is worth two points, and so on. These points are then multiplied by the number of credit hours for the class to calculate earned points. Earned points for the semester are added together and the total divided by the number of total credit hours for the semester to determine G.P.A. Semester G.P.A. determines students academic standing and appears on a student’s transcript. GrantsA grant is a need-based form of financial aid that does not have to be repaid and is awarded to the neediest students according to the previous year’s tax return. The most commonly recognized grants are the Federal Pell Grant and the Workforce Investment Grant. Each of these is applied for via the Free Application for Federal Student Aid.
