SThe letter "S" refers to Saturday on the class schedule. SATThe Standard Achievement Test (SAT) is a college placement exam that can be used in place of the ACT or Compass exams. Schedule of ClassesThe list of what courses will be offered in any given semester is the schedule of classes. This is available online or in print for the current semester and is available for the upcoming semester just prior to pre-registration. ScholarshipA scholarship is another form of financial aid that does not have to be repaid and is awarded based on predetermined eligibility requirements. There are three forms of scholarships: academic scholarships are awarded based on student’s academic record and entrance exam scores, performance scholarships are awarded to students who perform specific services for the College, and private scholarships are awarded for a variety of requirements, including the high school of graduation, anticipated major, and community involvement. SCIThe Science Building located on the east side of campus. SemesterA semester is the academic unit of time in which a course is offered. There are a number of semesters included in each academic year: fall, 4-week fall, 8-week fall, 10-week fall, spring, 4-week spring, 8-week spring, 10-week spring, May intersession, eight-week summer, first four-week summer, and second four-week summer. StaffUACCM has a large number of support personnel who make up the College staff. Student Government AssociationThe Student Government Association, or SGA, is the official voice of the students. It is a means by which students can become more involved in UACCM and more involved in their own education. The SGA represents the interests of all students while promoting and assisting other UACCM clubs, groups, and organizations, as well as local charitable fundraising efforts. Student IDEach student is issued a random identification number used in lieu of a social security number upon beginning classes at UACCM along with a photo identification card. This number is used to access students records. Student ID cards are required to receive financial aid refunds, student discounts at area businesses, and some special events and activities on campus. Student Discount ProgramMany area businesses offer UACCM students exclusive discounts on food, gifts, services, and other items. Students must present a UACCM Student ID to receive discounts. Student OrganizationsUACCM has approximately 30 formally recognized student organizations made up of students and employees which are intended to enhance the academic and personal growth of students. UACCM also gives students the opportuniy to charter student organizations that are of proven interest on campus. Student Success LabThe Student Success Lab is available for students to prepare class assignments and/or to provide tutoring for those courses where students might need assistance. Staffed by full-time tutors and/or peer tutors, the Student Success Lab is a valuable resources for students and is located in the Business Technology Center. Summer (8-Week)Summer session is held during the months of June and July and is eight weeks in duration. Most courses are held on Monday and Wednesday, or Tuesday and Thursday for an average of three hours per day. Sixteen weeks of material is taught in eight weeks. Summer I (First Four-Week Summer)Summer I is a four-week semester that is held during the month of June. Classes meet four days per week, an average of three hours per day. Sixteen weeks of coursework is taught in four weeks. Summer II (Second Four-Week Summer)Summer II is the same as the Summer I semester but held during the month of July. SuperscoreSuperscoring involves selecting the highest scores obtained on in the areas of math, English, and reading from the number of times an entrance exam was taken, then averaging then to arrive at a new composite score. The scores must be derived from the same set of exams, such as the ACT or COMPASS. (Science Reasoning is excluded from the ACT). Superscores are used to determine scholarship eligibility at UACCM. SyllabusThe syllabus is the “contract” between the student and the instructor in each course. Most syllabi (the plural for of syllabus) include the instructor’s contact information, course objectives, attendance policies, and grading scales. This is a very important document—don’t lose it!
