Automotive Service Technology

Formal training in the automotive service and repair field has become more important due to the multitude of advances in this evolving technology and changes in automotive system communication structures, an increasing number of electronic components, and building materials used in late model automobiles. UACCM’s Automotive Service Technology program is accredited through the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Education Foundation, which is the recognized standard used for measuring academic and hands-on learning achievements obtained by automotive repair technicians. Student have the opportunity to earn ASE Student Certifications in 8 different content areas: A1 – Engine Repair, A2 – Automatic Transmission/Transaxle, A3 – Manual Drive Train & Axles, A4 – Suspension & Steering, A5 – Brakes, A6 – Electrical/Electronic Systems, A7 – Heating & Air Conditioning, A8 – Engine Performance. In addition, students have the opportunity to earn the G1 – Maintenance and Light Repair (MLR) certificate.

UACCM’s Automotive Service Technology program covers the operation, maintenance, and repair of the modern vehicle. Students will learn to troubleshoot issues accurately using high-tech diagnostic equipment on a diverse fleet of vehicles. Students will receive classroom instruction that complements the hands-on training assignments that are completed in the shop. Reading, basic math, and computer skills are essential to success since auto repair requires such precision. Major tools needed for this program are provided. Throughout the program, students have the ability to earn industry-recognized certifications.

Students who successfully complete the Certificate of Proficiency in Automotive Service Technology will be able to:

  • Perform light maintenance on vehicles.

  • Perform basic electrical repairs.
  • Perform basic mechanical repairs.

Program Learning Outcomes

Students who successfully complete the Associate of Applied Science degree in Automotive Technology will be able to:

  • Perform advanced electrical troubleshooting and repair on multiplex wiring with modules.
  • Perform basic overhauls of engines, transmissions, and differentials.
  • Diagnose, locate, and repair mechanical issues
