Volunteer Opportunities

Grief Support Volunteers: Grief support, otherwise known as bereavement volunteers, assist bereavement staff in making phone calls to Arkansas Hospice families following the death of a loved one. These volunteers receive additional training from the bereavement staff and help to remind families of services available to them for up to 13 months.

Patient and Family Care Volunteers: Companionship is a key component, as well as helping with errands and sitting with patients while caregiver’s rest. Opportunities are available in patients’ homes, in nursing homes, in assisted living facilities and in our Arkansas Hospice inpatient centers.

Pet Therapy Program Volunteers: The Pet Therapy Program offers the opportunity for volunteers with certified therapy dogs to visit with patients in nursing homes and our inpatient facilities. Pet therapy has been proven to lower blood pressure and provide comfort to patients.

Vet-to-Vet Program Volunteers: This program pairs our veteran patients with volunteers who have also served in the military and oftentimes have a better understanding of what the patients have experienced. These veteran volunteers provide invaluable companionship and can give caretakers a chance to take a brief break.

Our mentor program is designed to provide a child with a special friend aside from family or staff. Our hope is that with each child in our care, a mentor will establish a close personal relationship and provide our children with opportunities they might not otherwise receive. In this way Mentorship is an augment and support to the daily care of those at Southern Christian. It is also an opportunity for a volunteer to enrich their own life by sharing it with a child.
